FibreCo National Fibre Optic Network
FibreCo is building South Africa’s largest open access long-haul fibre-optic network. Phase 1 construction involved the laying of 2,400 km of fibre between Johannesburg and Cape Town and connecting Bloemfontein and East London.
This dispersed project spanning hundreds of kilometres was split into several sections which were then executed concurrently. Daily productivity was recorded at each section via C-COM’s site diary by the EPC contractor and reviewed by the owner’s on site representative, these records could be rolled up to project level. The system was also used for risk management and claims administration.
“Implementing a reporting and communication system that kept everyone informed on a daily basis of what was happening on the entire project (1000km) assisted the management teams of the Employer and Contractor to effectively manage the project. It was possible to identify problems and risks early and to make timeous decisions to mitigate these risks. The utilisation of C-COM provided us with an excellent platform to obtain up to date production rates and detailed site information on a daily basis from the daily diaries”
